About Laura Ocker, L.Ac., MAcOM

Laura Ocker, L.Ac. opened Cascade Family Acupuncture in Milwaukie, Oregon in April of 2009. She began studying Chinese medicine in 1998 and has been licensed to practice acupuncture and Oriental medicine since 2003. She is NCCAOM certified, licensed by the Oregon Medical Board, and holds a Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. Laura maintained a thriving acupuncture and Chinese medicine practice for six years at Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center (VGMHC) a non-profit primary care and prenatal community health center in Hillsboro. She served on the agency's Management Team from 2007 to 2010, coordinating health and safety programs for multiple clinics.

Laura's private practice is located in the Oregon Alternative Health Clinic in Milwaukie, convenient to neighborhoods in East Portland, Clackamas, and Happy Valley Also practicing at this location are Dr. Kevin Segal, D.C. with Back in Shape Chiropractic and Dr. Meredith McClanen, N.D. with Naturopathic Family Medicine. Appointments with a Licensed Massage Therapist are available as well. Office manager, Darcie McIntosh, will assist you in scheduling your appointment, verifying insurance coverage, and answering any questions you may have.

Laura has practiced on-call at several clinics with a focus on helping people recover from addictions and is currently an on-call acupuncturist through Central City Concern. She speaks Spanish fluently and enjoys working with children and adults of all ages, including providing care for women during pregnancy. Laura currently serves as president of the board of directors of the Oregon Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She enjoys teaching qigong meditation classes through the Clackamas Community College Community Education programs.

Prior to starting in the field of Chinese Medicine, Laura's professional background was in ecology. After completing a BS in biology from Florida State University in 1993, she spent several years working in conservation research, traveling, and learning Spanish. Her work and travels led her through South and Central America, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Antarctica, and eventually to Oregon. Laura lives in Southeast Portland with her husband and two children.
